Jeb, how could you?

Jeb Bush did not attend an outdoor Good Friday service yesterday. SpiritDaily.com has this interesting take on it:

Rev. Patrick Mahoney, who attended the event with demonstrators, noted with irony that part of the liturgy Bush would have read with the participants included the following text, entitled "The Fifth Station of the Cross":

"Lord Jesus, sometimes I don't want to do what is right or to help someone in need, but you want me to respond positively to the needs of others in my life. Help me to say 'yes' and be willing to give heroic assistance to all who are in need."

Yet again, Florida's finest

Yes, I know the police are duty-bound to enforce Judge Greer's orders. (By the way, interesting side note here--Michael Schiavo's lawyer George Felos has contributed campaign $$$ to Greer. And that isn't a conflict of interest? Sorry, but nobody is going to convince me now that Greer wasn't bought and paid for with the money from Schiavo's $1,000,000 insurance windfall...)

They were on their way, the cavalry. They were on their way. And the child-arresting Florida police stopped them...This is from Yahoo news.

MIAMI - Hours after a judge ordered that Terri Schiavo wasn't to be removed from her hospice, a team of Florida law enforcement agents were en route to seize her and have her feeding tube reinserted - but they stopped short when local police told them they would enforce the judge's order, The Miami Herald has learned.

The pathology of evil

I'm going to post this without comment. I found it while flipping through a book I own called Hitler: The Pathology of Evil by George Victor, pages 116-117.

"A judge protested the 'euthanasia' program to the minister of justice...'Injustice cannot be turned into justice by formally correct...legislation.' The minister told him that a judge who 'does not recognize the will of the Fuhrer as the source of law...cannot be a judge anymore.' The judge retired....

"But Hitler ordered that the justice system participate in the extermination.

"Bizarre as this use of law may sound, it was accepted by Nazi law professors....And in fact the courts became an instrument for purging Germany's population...."

"While trying cases, prosecutors suggested to judges what verdicts and sentences the Chancellery expected. And members of the police or SS often sat in court as observers and hinted to judges about whether their conduct of cases was likely to lead to punishment.

"Laws and constitutions no longer meant what they said, for they had to be reinterpreted in the light of Hitler's will. Even with the directives they received, no judge, prosecutor, lawyer or police official could be sure what a law meant in general or how it should be applied in a specific case....Their uncertainty weakened prevailing moral and ethical rules as well as legal ones. Right and wrong were less clear than before."

Here we see them arresting yet another 10-year-old, Joshua Heldreth, outside the hospice where Terri Schindler is dying. Sleep easy, Florida--you're well-protected. Any swarms of praying children will be efficiently dealt with.

Above All

I played this song at my 34-year-old brother's Rosary after his death in December 2003. It's one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard.

Above All by Lenny LeBlanc & Paul Baloche
from "Worship" Michael W. Smith lyrics

Above all powers
Above all things
Above all nature and all created things
Above all wisdom and all the ways of man
You were here before the world began
Above all kingdoms
Above all thrones
Above all wonders the world has ever known
Above all wealth and treasures of the earth
There's no way to measure what You're worth

::Chorus::
Crucified
Laid behind the stone
You lived to die
Rejected and alone
Like a rose trampled on the ground
You took the fall
And thought of me
Above all

Terri and her killer

This picture is 15 years old. The look on Terri's face, as she gazes lovingly at her executioner, makes me tremble with shame for what the judicial system of this country has done to this woman. And notice, please, that she definitely didn't look like she was in a "persistent vegetative state" after her initial collapse. Of course, this was during Michael's lawsuit, before he won his money, before he began to refuse Terri any treatment whatsoever...

Lady Magdalene

The lyrics pasted below, from Neil Diamond's incredibly moving song "Lady Magdalene," seemed somehow fitting for today...

Lady Magdelene, I can hear your distant trumpet
calling from the morning mountain, singing to the passing river.
Take me home, show me peaceful days before my youth has gone.

Lady Magdelene, make the sound of silent thunder
calling from the lips of Abraham
make a sound that we may wonder, where we are.
Take us to your soul for we have wandered far.

A life unled, a song unsung

This is a heartwrenching article written by The Washington Post's Jennifer Frey. It begins with the following paragraph...

WASHINGTON - She was a girl who laughed easily at her uncle's lame jokes. A girl so naive that she wrote to John Denver, asking him to come sing at her wedding, who went to Disney World for her honeymoon and believed that a good life meant that one day she'd be able to vacation there every year with her kids.

and becomes even harder to read after that...

As we enter Terri's last Good Friday on earth, as the sweeping pain that I am feeling grips me and overwhelms me, I am struck yet again that a completely innocent woman is being murdered. The irony here is that she is being murdered by her so-called husband specifically so that her so-called husband will not be brought up on charges of murder. He beat her--the affidavits that Judge Greer blithely ignored prove that. Michael Schiavo is killing his wife to hide the fact that he tried to kill his wife.

And like I did with Ward Churchill, I will issue this statement: Michael Schiavo, if I am lying, if I am accusing you of a hideous crime you did not commit, sue me. Take me to court. I could probably line up witnesses to support my accusations from here to China if I had to. Of course, you'd have to figure out where to get more money, because I don't think the book you're already writing--or is it already at the publisher?--is going to be the huge moneymaker you and Felos and Greer are hoping it will be. Then again, if I'm right, and there's a huge insurance policy out there with your name on it, or your common-law wife's name on it, that will only pay in an instance of "natural" death, you may just be able to come up with some spending cash after all. I mean, you've convinced the liberals that this is a "natural" death, haven't you?

By those lights, Auschwitz was a health camp. Hey, starvation of your fellow human beings is natural, according to Michael Schiavo...Be warned, Jodi Centonze, be warned. You could be next. The minute you become, legally and not just by common law, Mrs. Jodi Schiavo, your life is in his hands. Do you love him enough for that, Jodi? Do you love him enough to place the lives of your children in his hands? Then again, you're a mother, supposedly, a mother who cares for her children. Can you imagine something like this happening to your children, Jodi? Something that your common-law husband is doing to someone else's daughter?

I'm beyond exhaustion. It's Good Friday, the day Our Lord died in order that people like Michael Schiavo might have a shot at redemption. I have been utterly focused on two really bad men for weeks now. The irony is that I had written an e-mail to Dan Caplis and Craig Silverman asking what we could focus on next, once the Churchill thing was over. I never imagined it would be something this dark, this horrible, this evil...I never imagined that I would be travelling to Golgotha with a fellow Catholic who is slowly dying.

For all those pollsters out there who think Congress should not have gotten involved--I guess I can only say to you, again, don't get sick in Florida. If the government of this country--of any country--cannot step to the plate for its individual citizens, then what good is any government at all? In that light, I would point out that not one word has been heard against Italy stepping to the plate for one woman who is not in any danger of dying. One woman who is a Communist radical. Italy is going to bat for Whatshername Sgrena--why isn't that an example of a government overstepping its bounds? Oh, wait, I already know the answer--it's because Sgrena is seen as a heroine by the left, another victim of Bush's policies. If only Terri Schindler had been a Communist!

Golgotha...It's there, in front of me, and I can hear Terri's labored breathing by my side. She clings to my arm as we walk, bending beneath the weight of her cross. I help her as much as I can, I would pick her up and carry her if I could, anything to ease her final pain. Golgotha. The place of the skull. It's just ahead, Terri, there in the light from a bleeding sun. It will soon be over...

Stations

From Zenit.org, the online Catholic news service, comes this heartbreaking article:

Schiavo Case: "Another Station in Her Calvary"
VATICAN CITY, MARCH 24, 2005 (Zenit.org).-
The rejection by a U.S. appeals court to give food and water to Terri Schiavo is "another painful station in her calvary," says L'Osservatore Romano. In a front-page article, today's Italian edition of the Vatican's semiofficial newspaper commented on the decision of Schiavo's parents to appeal to federal courts to save their daughter's life. Later, the U.S. Supreme Court also turned down a request to order the reinsertion of a feeding tube to keep Schiavo alive. Her husband wants to let her die. "Unfortunately, until now, in her painful journey Terri seems to have come across executioners -- from the one who decided for the first time to let her die, to the judges who have now signed her sentence," stated the newspaper article. "And this, despite the opinion of most of American society and the intervention of President George W. Bush himself, who expressed his regret over the judge's decision," added the newspaper. "Meanwhile, unaware of the media noise caused by her case, Terri is dying in silence."

Arm me with jealous care,

a strict account to give!

Help me to watch and pray,
and on thyself rely;
assured, if I my trust betray,
I shall forever die.

A reminder

An hour ago, Terri Schindler's parents were allowed to see her. They reported that Terri was moving her mouth trying to speak...Read that sentence, then read it again, and then go and find your loved ones and hold them and cherish them and tell them you love them...

Jeb Bush has been shackled by a maniacal judge who will no doubt dine well tonight. If Jeb wants to go to prison, he can go in and try to take Terri. But it would mean a battle with no certain outcome. The fact that Michael Schiavo will demand instant cremation for his wife speaks volumes as to whether or not he beat her in the first place. Terri was found unconscious the morning after a "violent argument" with her husband--you do the math. The fact that Michael Schiavo wants us to believe Terri's death is "natural" and not, in fact, starvation--he told Larry King that Terri is not currently starving to death--might be taken to mean that there is a huge life insurance policy out there somewhere that will only pay on a death officially deemed "natural."

If you have daughters, whether they're old enough to be married or not, find them, phone them, hug them, tell them you love them. Urge them to put their wishes in writing and have those wishes notarized and copied and mailed to everyone they know.

As we basically now sit on deathwatch for Theresa Marie Schindler, I wanted to post a reminder of another nation that stood idly by while evil stalked the land unhindered:

In Nazi Germany, German physicians planned and enacted the "Euthanasia" Program, the systematic killing of those they deemed "unworthy of life." The victims included the mentally retarded, the institutionalized mentally ill, and the physically impaired.

Ward Churchill--BREAKING

Gotcha, Churchill. Gotcha. A few minutes ago, it was announced at a press conference that Churchill's case will be passed to a faculty review team. It has been found that there is sufficient grounds for deep concern, with resume fraud and plagiarism and shoddy scholarship the main points. Free speech has been upheld, according to C.U. Chancellor Phil DiStefano, but everything else is highly questionable.

Dan Caplis and Craig Silverman, Gunny Bob Newman and Mike Rosen--you done good, guys, you done good. Your research and hard slogging made today's press conference possible. I wish I could hug you!

The Empire Journal was hacked and had several of its Terri Schiavo stories mysteriously deleted. Very, very interesting, no? And yet they say we're the ones who are forming "alliances" and deserving of arrest (see my post on Gabriel Keys, all of 10 years old, who was handcuffed by Florida's finest.)

Jeb Bush still has options

Jeb Bush still has a lot of authority to intervene in Terri Schindler's case. Posted on BlogsforTerri are several internet links that explain what the Governor of Florida--who cannot commute Terri's death sentence as he would be able to do for a murderer on Death Row--has left as far as options are concerned.

March 24, 2005

In an effort to save Florida citizen, Terri Schindler-Schiavo from a court ordered death by starvation, the Society for Truth and Justice requested and delivered the following legal memorandums to Governor Jeb Bush in October of 2003:

Spin spin spin

I am getting so sick of the spin the left is putting on the Terri Schindler fight. With headlines like "Schiavo Case Highlights Catholic-Evangelical Alliance" and "Parents Side Has Vilified Husband," it makes you wonder yet again why they are so eager to murder this one woman.

Alliance? Um, yeah, and your problem with that is what, exactly? My goodness, we can't have Christians forming--gasp!--alliances, now can we? Can't have us nutty Jesus-freaks actually uniting to--gasp, gasp, gasp!--save human life, now can we? The left would much rather see everyone forming alliances to save forests and bunnies, and the heck with human life and God. Well, my answer to that is pretty much the Boston Rob point of view--I'll form alliances with whomever I choose, thank you very much...

And the parents have dared to--gasp!--vilify the man who wants their daughter dead? You're kidding me! (she snorted, her voice dripping with heavy sarcasm...) I have two daughters of my own, and trust me--any man who starts demanding their death will be vilified by me with every breath in my body.

Holy Thursday/Maundy Thursday

This is from the BBC, and is a good general overview of what today signifies. The washing of the feet, when Jesus took on the role of the lowest of the low, seems fitting when I think of Terri Schindler Schiavo--who is there to wash her, to bathe her, to bring her hope? And again, the Garden of Gethsemane, when Jesus prayed that the cup of death would pass him by, and then accepted the kiss of Judas on his cheek.

Michael Schiavo, have you kissed Terri on the cheek? Because I can hear the soldiers' feet, I can hear them drawing their swords--see them there, Michael? They've come at your behest, ready and willing to hand over the innocent for crucifixion. Oh, and Michael, don't be fooled by the disciples running away--they'll be back, they'll spread the word of what happened in this garden on this night, this secretive little back-alley deal, and the news of it will reach every corner of the globe. Your darkness won't win, Michael...

The entire timeline

WorldNetDaily has the entire Terri Schiavo story. It's a long article with lots of links, and is well worth reading.

Sweet home Alabama

Alabama's getting it right. They're trying to pass the same law that Florida should have passed yesterday.

As for Judge Greer... The article found here proves that he is definitely too big for his britches. I'm pasting two highly interesting paragraphs below, but please click the link and read the entire article.

(CNSNews.com) - The Florida judge presiding over the Terri Schiavo case ordered the state agency charged with protecting vulnerable adults to make no attempt to take the brain-injured woman into protective custody late Wednesday. The order appears to be in direct contradiction to a state statute that requires the agency to act.

But Florida statute 2004-Ch0415-Section%201051#0415.1051"415.1051 seems to contradict Felos' claim. The statute states, "If it appears that the vulnerable adult ... is likely to incur a risk of death or serious physical injury if such person is not immediately removed from the premises, then the representative of the department shall transport or arrange for the transportation of the vulnerable adult to an appropriate medical or protective services facility in order to provide emergency protective services." Jennifer Lima-Smith, an attorney for the DCF, reminded Greer that the agency does not need his permission in advance to act.

Starvation death

This article from The Washington Post requires a free registration to view. It's graphic, it's disturbing, and if you're a living, feeling human being, you will be left wondering that such dialogues can even occur in our supposedly civilized country.

Bear in mind--Judge Greer, in his desperation to one-up President Bush and Governor Bush, has once more signed a death warrant demanding the specific kind of death detailed at the above link. Judge Greer, in his desperation to show the world that he's a dutiful little death-angel, has denied Governor Bush the right to take this dying woman under state protection, where she would no longer be a financial burden, or an emotional one, on Michael Schiavo.

I cannot reiterate enough that our country is in serious trouble. Those people on the left who are trying so hard to turn this into a political issue--how do they sleep at night?

We are asking that one woman be spared, but the left is so focused on slapping our faces that they cannot see their own hypocrisy. I wonder--if "Terri" were the name of a Golden Retriever who was found nearly dead of starvation in Michael Schiavo's back yard, would Michael be arrested? Or would he be the darling of the left that he has become in recent weeks? And I say again--what sort of scene would we be watching if the Terri in question were Teresa Heinz Kerry? I wonder if Hillary Clinton would show up for the prayer vigil for Kerry's wife?

I also say again--vote the judges out. Every single one of them. Period. Because not one of them would stand up for your rights, not one of them would exert themselves to save your life. And after you vote the judges out, let's work on getting some laws passed that actually help people. Florida gave itself a black eye today by not passing a bill to protect those being denied nourishment. Get rid of the Florida legislators. Every one of them. After all...they would do the same for you...

Jeb seeks custody

Pray this works:

Gov. Jeb Bush and the state's social services agency filed a petition in state court to take custody of Schiavo and, presumably, reconnect her feeding tube. It cites new allegations of neglect and challenges Schiavo's diagnosis as being in a persistent vegetative state. The request is based on the opinion of a neurologist working for the state who observed Schiavo at her bedside but did not conduct an examination of her.

Fasting

Beginning at midnight tonight, I intend to fast until sometime on Friday. Tomorrow is Holy Thursday, the day the Catholic Church remembers Jesus' Last Supper. Traditionally, fasts during Holy Week are held on Good Friday, which is the date Patricia Heaton will be fasting for Terri.

I have chosen Holy Thursday for my fast instead, as it seemed in keeping with the theme of sacrifice and redemption found in the Last Supper. It was during the Last Supper that Jesus instituted the Eucharist, the ultimate gift of his body and his blood. It was on Thursday night that he was arrested in the Garden, and began his final journey.

If I can, I intend to continue my fast through Good Friday as well, and I will be posting my thoughts throughout this time. I am so tired right now, worn out first by Ward Churchill, and now by butting my head against the rock wall of the culture of death. Terri has already had her Last Supper, and she is on her way to the Garden, to the kiss on her cheek, to the crown of thorns on her head and the nails through her wrists. To Calvary. To Golgotha.

If this seems melodramatic, or even blasphemous, I suppose I don't really care. This is Holy Week, Passion Week, and an innocent woman is being slowly murdered in the most advanced nation on earth. The wealthiest nation on earth. The nation where we eat so many Big Macs that Al Qaeda feels the need to bomb the snot out of us. The nation where our youth are so overweight it's now a legitimate crisis. We are starving her to death, in this land of the Golden Arches, and it sickens me. It exhausts me. No, I am not comparing Terri to Jesus. But she is suffering, she is dying, and it's happening during Holy Week. How can I not compare her journey to His?

Florida Senate--BREAKING

The Florida Senate has shown that they don't give a damn what this country feels. I e-mailed every single one of them, and had the same response for every single one of them--Mailbox Full. That, to me, says very clearly that I wasn't the only person begging them to save Terri's life. And with the rejection of this bill, the door is wide open for anyone, anywhere in Florida, to kill whomever they choose, so long as it's in the name of mercy.

ATLANTA Mar 23, 2005 — For the second time in less than a day, a federal appeals court Wednesday rejected a bid by Terri Schiavo's parents to have her feeding tube re-inserted. The Florida Senate also turned back another last-ditch effort to prolong her life.

The Senate bill would have prohibited patients like Schiavo from being denied food and water if they did not express their wishes in writing. The 21-18 vote came five days after her feeding tube was removed under court order. Similar efforts in the Legislature have failed in the past.

CodeBlueBlog on Terri's bonescan

I am posting this in its entirety, and urge you to visit CodeBlueBlog. It's important to get this info out there, which is the only reason I'm posting the article whole, rather than a mere link. This must be read.

CSI MEDBLOGS: CODEBLUEBLOG ANALYZES TERRI SCHIAVO'S STARTLING BONE SCAN
WHAT DOES TERRI'S BONE SCAN MEAN?

It is my opinion that the most likely reason for these bone scan findings in March of 1991 is that someone either was physically abusing Terri or they dropped/mishandled her severely.

A reader asked me to comment on Terri Schiavo's bone scan report.

Here are my initial thoughts:

It is perilous to try and interpret just the bone scan REPORT. I need to see the scan itself and the correlative X-rays.

However, that being said, several things are unusual.

First, the DATE on this bone scan is March 1991. Terri's cardiopulmonary arrest -- as far as I can tell -- was in February 1990; therefore, the abnormalities that are described occured AFTER Terri's February 1990 arrest, probably in the weeks or month(s) just prior to the bone scan, unless she had a second arrest at some point -- and I do not have that history. Certainly there was trauma. As I understand it, the issue is how the trauma occurred.

Trauma from CPR generally involves the anterior aspects of the ribs where they join the sternum. This is usually due to vigorous compression during CPR. Any other proposed trauma during CPR would need to be documented by the notes or by eye witnesses as to the mechanism (e.g.: did she fall off the stretcher?).

The bone scan report of TS describes an injury NOT to the anterior ribs, but, to a different part of the ribs-- posteriorly -- namely at the juncture of the ribs and vertebrae (the costovertebral juncture, or CVJ). In addition, although the report mentions several rib fractures, it does not specify if they were all CVJ located or in different/various locations. This is important. Finally, I do not see a report of correlative x-rays for the ribs, which would be helpful to determine the TIMING of the injury (fractures look very different depending on WHEN they occurred).

The compression fracture of L-1 is interesting. This is certainly NOT a typical injury that occurs during CPR as it generally involves an AXIAL load (i.e. on the top of the head; or from the top DOWN); a caveat here: if TS was anorectic for a prolonged period or on certain medications she could have been osteoporotic, in which case some might claim that a mild compression fracture of L-1 would not be so unusual-- however this is only true in ambulatory people, which Terri was not.

The uptake over Terri's distal right femur is the most peculiar element in this report. This is an unusual finding in ANY situation and I would have to see the scan and films to be sure of what it means; however, if there is PERIOSTEAL ELEVATION then one would have to posit (as did the person who interpreted Terri's bone scan) the possibility of bleeding underneath the thin covering of the bone (the periosteum) which is a finding that correlates highly with trauma, specifically, abuse.

It would be difficult to propose a mechanism that caused this type of problem unless a specific witness arises to declare he or she remembers a specific event that would have caused this UNUSUAL finding.

I would want to know if Terri had a BLEEDING problem at any time, because that might explain this finding.

Certainly IN A CHILD (which Schiavo, obviously was not), the combination of posterior rib fractures, vertebral compression fractures, and distal femoral periosteal elevation is ABSOLUTELY POSITIVELY DIAGNOSTIC for child abuse and any radiologist who missed this diagnosis would be subject to disciplinary action from his peers and state licensing board.

SEE: http://radiographics.rsnajnls.org/cgi/content/full/23/4/811

It is my opinion that the most likely reason for these bone scan findings in March of 1991 is that someone either was physically abusing Terri or they dropped/mishandled her severely.

The x-rays might make all of this clearer if we can obtain them.
n.b.

Teri's fractures could be of the "insufficiency" type (caused by prolonged immobilization/dietary irregularities) and some might posit this explanation; however, in a nonambulatory bedridden patient under careful supervision, I find this untenable, especially given their distribution which are so typical for ABUSE.

Here are the views on Terri Schindler of a neurologist who is not a member of the Hemlock Society, and who is not being paid by Michael Schiavo.

And the difference is...?

Will someone please tell me how this is any different than this?

Michael Schiavo's chosen neurologist

From WorldNetDaily comes this extremely interesting bit:

The neurologist chosen by Michael Schiavo to examine his estranged wife, Terri, is a right-to-die activist who has been a featured speaker for the pro-euthanasia Hemlock Society.

Dr. Ronald Cranford testified in the court cases before county court Judge George Greer that Terri Schiavo was in a persistent vegetative state with no hope of recovery.

Florida officials and online petitions

This is a list of Florida state officials complete with e-mail addresses and telephone numbers. Use it wisely. Be nice, don't use harsh words or threats or anger, but make your voice heard.

This is a list of online petitions that you can sign. Please look it over, and then make your voice count.

And it goes on...

The Schindlers have lost their first round of appeals. Terri has, once again, been denied the rights any common criminal is given. The feeding tube will not, for now, be reinserted, and she will continue to die.

Death row prisoners are not given their lethal injections before they have exhausted their appeals. Why this innocent woman should have to die to satisfy the left-wing ghouls is beyond me. The left will march until they drop for a death row inmate, yet the only sound they seem capable of making over Terri Schindler's fate is the sound of smacking lips. Of cries for her blood. Of cries, as we inch ever closer to Good Friday, of "crucify her..."

It is beginning to seem, more and more, as if this isn't about Terri Schindler at all. It has become the political fight that the left has been accusing the right of starting. It has become a case of "we'll do anything, anything--we'll murder an innocent woman--as long as we don't have to show any kind of support whatsoever for anything George Bush does." They're willing to commit this act rather than be seen to agree in the least amount with Bush.

People who were speaking out two weeks ago in support of Ward Churchill, people who gained such pleasure from shouting that the U.S. got what it deserved on 9-11, are silent when it comes to Terri Schindler. People who were so eager to blame Bush for every death in every war we've ever been involved in are curiously unwilling to support Bush's adamant stance on preserving this one life. They are coming down instead on the side of the death squads. They are showing to the world exactly who the "little Eichmanns" and the little Mengeles really are. They have removed their outer garments and shown the dark uniforms of the Schutzstaffel, the gleaming death's-head rings on their fingers, the lightning-bolts on their shoulders. The pale yellow gleam of insanity in their eyes.

This is one of the darkest weeks in this country's history. We are murdering an innocent woman, and mocking her--Bill Maher, you freak, I'm talking to you--as she dies. There are 35,000 people on life-support in this country right now--35,000 more chances for the left to show their true colors.

Why has Michael Schiavo not been arrested?

The day before her collapse, Terri Schindler told her family she was leaving Michael Schiavo. They begged her not to return home that night, but she did anyway. The next morning--the next morning--Terri was found face down and unconscious at her home. The police report was forwarded to Homicide, but was never investigated by Homicide.

Carla Iyer's affidavit alone should be enough to convince any sane person that an grave injustice is being perpetrated tonight on a fellow human being. A doctor who examined Terri for 10 hours says that she is more responsive that many disbaled children with whom he works. This is insane, people, insane--we need to save this woman's life! Her husband is murdering her, finishing a process he likely began the night his wife told him she wanted to leave him.

Sanctuary?

I wonder if anyone out there knows the current thinking on this without my having to read through the Catechism--would Terri Schindler be able to seek Sanctuary from the Catholic Church? I had thought that this was no longer an actual option, but figured I would throw it out there and see what everyone else thinks.

Also, please read my post on a prayer vigil--I'm utterly serious about this. Any day this week would be good, I just want to fill a 24-hour-period with constant prayer for Terri. I'll do it alone if I must, but it would be really nice to have others involved.

Affidavit of nurse who cared for Terri

The article found here is an affidavit by a nurse named Carla Iyer who treated Terri in the late '90s. This is an incredibly important document, and I wonder, through my growing rage, why this affidavit has not been publicized, why this affidavit has not been considered in the decisions of the judges in this case. The eagerness for death disgusts me, and it should disgust any thinking, feeling human being. The entire affidavit would be too long to post here, so please, please, please click the link above and read this document in its entirety.

I will post one tiny section here, just so the world can see exactly the kind of person Michael Schiavo is, from his own foul mouth--and by the way, this section would seem to support the fears that Michael beat Terri into the condition she's in...

Throughout my time at Palm Gardens, Michael Schiavo was focused on Terri’s death. Michael would say “When is she going to die?,” “Has she died yet?” and “When is that bitch gonna die?” These statements were common knowledge at Palm Gardens, as he would make them casually in passing, without regard even for who he was talking to, as long as it was a staff member. Other statements which I recall him making include “Can’t you do anything to accelerate her death - won’t she ever die?” When she wouldn’t die, Michael would be furious.

Abraham Lincoln and the Dred Scott Decision

This quotation from Abraham Lincoln seems appropriate this morning:

In those days, our Declaration of Independence was held sacred by all, and thought to include all; but now, to aid in making the bondage of the negro universal and eternal, it is assailed, and sneered at, and construed, and hawked at, and torn, till, if its framers could rise from their graves, they could not at all recognize it. All the powers of earth seem rapidly combining against him. Mammon is after him; ambition follows, and philosophy follows, and the Theology of the day is fast joining the cry. They have him in his prison house; they have searched his person, and left no prying instrument with him. One after another they have closed the heavy iron doors upon him, and now they have him, as it were, bolted in with a lock of a hundred keys, which can never be unlocked without the concurrent of every key; the keys in the hands of a hundred different men, and they scattered to a hundred different and distant places; and they stand musing as to what invention, in all the dominions of mind and matter, can be produced to make the impossibility of his escape more complete than it is.

Matthew 25:34-40

34
Then the king will say to those on his right, 'Come, you who are blessed by my Father. Inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.
35
For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, a stranger and you welcomed me,
36
naked and you clothed me, ill and you cared for me, in prison and you visited me.'
37
Then the righteous will answer him and say, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink?
38
When did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you?
39
When did we see you ill or in prison, and visit you?'
40
And the king will say to them in reply, 'Amen, I say to you, whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me.'
from the New American Bible

Cardinal Galen's sermon, 1941

Copied here is an excerpt from Cardinal Galen's speech against Nazi euthanasia:

Fellow Christians! In the pastoral letter of the German bishops of June 26, 1941, which was read out in all the Catholic churches in Germany on July 6, 1941, it states among other things: It is true that there are definite commandments in Catholic moral doctrine which are no longer applicable if their fulfillment involves too many difficulties.

However, there are sacred obligations of conscience from which no one has the power to release us and which we must fulfil even if it costs us our lives. Never under any circumstances may a human being kill an innocent person apart from war and legitimate self-defense. On July 6, I already had cause to add to the pastoral letter the following explanation: for some months we have been hearing reports that, on the orders of Berlin, patients from mental asylums who have been ill for a long time and may appear incurable, are being compulsorily removed. Then, after a short time, the relatives are regularly informed that the corpse has been burnt and the ashes can be delivered. There is a general suspicion verging on certainty, that these numerous unexpected deaths of mentally ill people do not occur of themselves but are deliberately brought about, that the doctrine is being followed, according to which one may destroy so-called 'worthless life,' that is, kill innocent people if one considers that their lives are of no further value for the nation and the state.

I am reliably informed that lists are also being drawn up in the asylums of the province of Westphalia as well of those patients who are to be taken away as so-called 'unproductive national comrades' and shortly to be killed. The first transport left the Marienthal institution near Münster during this past week.

German men and women, section 211 of the Reich Penal Code is still valid. It states: 'He who deliberately kills another person will be punished by death for murder if the killing is premeditated.'

Those patients who are destined to be killed are transported away from home to a distant asylum presumably in order to protect those who deliberately kill those poor people, members of our families, from this legal punishment. Some illness is then given as the cause of death. Since the corpse has been burnt straight away, the relatives and also the criminal police are unable to establish whether the illness really occurred and what the cause of death was.

However, I have been assured that the Reich Interior Ministry and the office of the Reich Doctors' Leader, Dr. Conti, make no bones about the fact that in reality a large number of mentally ill people in Germany have been deliberately killed and more will be killed in the future.

The Penal Code lays down in section 139: 'He who receives credible information concerning the intention to commit a crime against life and neglects to alert the authorities or the person who is threatened in time...will be punished.'

When I learned of the intention to transport patients from Marienthal in order to kill them, I brought a formal charge at the State Court in Münster and with the Police President in Münster by means of a registered letter which read as follows: "According to information which I have received, in the course of this week a large number of patients from the Marienthal Provincial Asylum near Münster are to be transported to the Eichberg asylum as so-called 'unproductive national comrades' and will then soon be deliberately killed, as is generally believed has occurred with such transports from other asylums. Since such an action is not only contrary to the moral laws of God and Nature but also is punishable with death as murder under section 211 of the Penal Code, I hereby bring a charge in accordance with my duty under section 139 of the Penal Code, and request you to provide immediate protection for the national comrades threatened in this way by taking action against those agencies who are intending their removal and murder, and that you inform me of the steps that have been taken."

I have received no news concerning intervention by the Prosecutor's Office or by the police...Thus we must assume that the poor helpless patients will soon be killed.

For what reason?

Not because they have committed a crime worthy of death. Not because they attacked their nurses or orderlies so that the latter had no other choice but to use legitimate force to defend their lives against their attackers. Those are cases where, in addition to the killing of an armed enemy in a just war, the use of force to the point of killing is allowed and is often required.

No, it is not for such reasons that these unfortunate patients must die but rather because, in the opinion of some department, on the testimony of some commission, they have become 'worthless life' because according to this testimony they are 'unproductive national comrades.' The argument goes: they can no longer produce commodities, they are like an old machine that no longer works, they are like an old horse which has become incurably lame, they are like a cow which no longer gives milk.

What does one do with such an old machine? It is thrown on the scrap heap. What does one do with a lame horse, with such an unproductive cow?

No, I do not want to continue the comparison to the end--however fearful the justification for it and the symbolic force of it are. We are not dealing with machines, horses and cows whose only function is to serve mankind, to produce goods for man. One may smash them, one may slaughter them as soon as they no longer fulfil this function.

No, we are dealing with human beings, our fellow human beings, our brothers and sisters. With poor people, sick people, if you like unproductive people.

But have they for that reason forfeited the right to life?

Have you, have I the right to live only so long as we are productive, so long as we are recognized by others as productive?

If you establish and apply the principle that you can kill 'unproductive' fellow human beings then woe betide us all when we become old and frail! If one is allowed to kill the unproductive people then woe betide the invalids who have used up, sacrificed and lost their health and strength in the productive process. If one is allowed forcibly to remove one's unproductive fellow human beings then woe betide loyal soldiers who return to the homeland seriously disabled, as cripples, as invalids. If it is once accepted that people have the right to kill 'unproductive' fellow humans--and even if initially it only affects the poor defenseless mentally ill--then as a matter of principle murder is permitted for all unproductive people, in other words for the incurably sick, the people who have become invalids through labor and war, for us all when we become old, frail and therefore unproductive.

Then, it is only necessary for some secret edict to order that the method developed for the mentally ill should be extended to other 'unproductive' people, that it should be applied to those suffering from incurable lung disease, to the elderly who are frail or invalids, to the severely disabled soldiers. Then none of our lives will be safe any more. Some commission can put us on the list of the 'unproductive,' who in their opinion have become worthless life. And no police force will protect us and no court will investigate our murder and give the murderer the punishment he deserves.

Who will be able to trust his doctor any more?

He may report his patient as 'unproductive' and receive instructions to kill him. It is impossible to imagine the degree of moral depravity, of general mistrust that would then spread even through families if this dreadful doctrine is tolerated, accepted and followed.

Woe to mankind, woe to our German nation if God's Holy Commandment 'Thou shalt not kill,' which God proclaimed on Mount Sinai amidst thunder and lightning, which God our Creator inscribed in the conscience of mankind from the very beginning, is not only broken, but if this transgression is actually tolerated and permitted to go unpunished.

Cardinal Clemens von Galen - August 3, 1941
Cardinal Galen's Speech - Against Nazi Euthanasia

T-4 and bloodlust

If anyone cannot yet see who the true "little Eichmanns" are in this country, please read the post below:

Wartime, Adolf Hitler suggested, "was the best time for the elimination of the incurably ill." Many Germans did not want to be reminded of individuals who did not measure up to their concept of a "master race." The physically and mentally handicapped were viewed as "useless" to society, a threat to Aryan genetic purity, and, ultimately, unworthy of life. At the beginning of World War II, individuals who were mentally retarded, physically handicapped, or mentally ill were targeted for murder in what the Nazis called the "T-4," or "euthanasia," program.

The "euthanasia" program required the cooperation of many German doctors, who reviewed the medical files of patients in institutions to determine which handicapped or mentally ill individuals should be killed. The doctors also supervised the actual killings. Doomed patients were transferred to six institutions in Germany and Austria, where they were killed in specially constructed gas chambers. Handicapped infants and small children were also killed by injection with a deadly dose of drugs or by starvation. The bodies of the victims were burned in large ovens called crematoria.

Despite public protests in 1941, the Nazi leadership continued this program in secret throughout the war. More than 200,000 handicapped people were murdered between 1940 and 1945.
The T-4 program became the model for the mass murder of Jews, Roma (Gypsies), and others in camps equipped with gas chambers that the Nazis would open in 1941 and 1942. The program also served as a training ground for SS members who manned these camps.

Prayers

If anyone is willing to join me tomorrow in a day of prayer, either leave a comment or e-mail me at ladypriory@yahoo.com I would like to cover each hour of the day, beginning at midnight tonight and continuing until midnight tomorrow night. Let me know if any of my readers would like to participate. If midnight tonight is too soon, we could begin at midnight tomorrow night and continue from there.

I'd also like to know what my readers are already doing. Have any of you fasted, for instance? I plan on fasting myself, giving up a day of meals in honor of this woman who is being forced to give up every meal. My day of fast will be Holy Thursday, whether or not Terri is still alive at that point.

Two options

I'm listening to Bill Bennet's radio show right now, and he just voiced two options, either one of which could happen, and I pray that one or both do actually happen.

--Jeb Bush could send in troops and take Terri Schindler into protective custody. She is, after all, mentally incapacitated and her life is in danger.

--Pope John Paul II could annul the marriage, thereby removing Terri from Schiavo's "care."

I'm weary this morning, weary from the fighting I've been doing for weeks now against the insidious evil I see all around me. And yet...and yet...you can't give up. You have to hope. You have to pray. So keep praying, form prayer circles, light candles, say rosaries. Don't give up. Not yet. Not while there's breath in her body. And even if that breath stops, keep fighting, because you don't know who the next victim will be. You don't know who the vampires of the left will demand blood from next...

On hatred

A US judge has refused to order doctors to resume feeding a severely brain-damaged woman, Terri Schiavo. Judge James Whittemore said the woman's parents had not proven a "substantial likelihood of success" if the case went back to court. (from the BBC)

I'm left, this morning, numb and uncertain what to do next. I cannot believe that the immense outpouring of support for the Schindlers in this country has had no effect whatsoever. The left screams that we have turned this into a political issue, when in fact it is they who have done that. It doesn't matter to them that they are killing an innocent woman. It doesn't matter that there are people more than willing to care for this woman.

It only matters that they score one on George W. Bush.

It's this attitude that turned me away from the middle of the road. It's this hatred for other human beings that opened my own eyes. There is a culture of death in this country, in this world, and it's growing, it's spreading, like a cancer. When you listen to what the nay-voters said in Sunday's late-night vote, you get chills down your spine--it's nothing more nor less than the insane rantings of a group of lunatics. Lunatics who have such a desire for power at any cost that they are willing to sacrifice an innocent woman. The bloodlust and hatred come off of these people in waves of black venom.

Ward Churchill and those of his ilk claim that Bush is responsible for the deaths of millions of Iraqis. That America deserved what it got on 9-11. They mention only Iraqi babies, of course, while blithely voting for every pro-abortion candidate they can find. Not one word out of them on the legalized murder of newborns in the Netherlands. Not one word out of them on the killing of Theresa Marie Schindler (as of this morning, I will do my level best not to use the name Schiavo when referring to her). They call the conservatives "Nazis" and "little Eichmanns," with no hint whatsoever of irony.

This is Holy Week in the Catholic Church. In Terri's Church. The Church that cannot, by law, give her comfort as she dies. That cannot give her Last Rites. It is the week where the Catholic Church focuses on the Passion of Christ, on His death and resurrection. On Good Friday, traditionally, Catholics leave their radios and televisions off for three hours in honor of Christ's death. It's possible that Terri Schindler will die on Good Friday, or on Easter Sunday. Possible, and fitting...

Martyrdom

As we wait for some sort of verdict out of Florida, I sit here wondering--does Michael Schiavo not realize that if he continues this fight, if Terri actually dies, he will have created a martyr? She is a Catholic who has been denied the visit of a priest (I wonder what Schiavo's reasoning is on that one) and denied Last Rites and Communion. She already bears the name of 2 saints, not to mention the Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta. Terri Schiavo is a focus for Catholic prayer--including my own. I wonder if this argument would even faze him, though, seriously. He hasn't shown that he cares for anyone or anything outside the purview of his own mirror (did anyone else catch his oh-so-coiffed-and-blowdried self on telly this morning?), so why should he care if Terri becomes an even greater focus for activism? He'll have won--he'll be free of this woman who, should she ever regain the ability to communicate, might just tell people that he beat her nearly to death and put her in this condition in the first place. (See the Larry King Live link in one of my previous posts for a discussion of the fact that no heart attack was ever documented, and therefore it's highly unlikely to have been a heart attack to cause her initial collapse at home alone with her loving husband...)

Of course, this is a man who kills cats--and we all know where killing animals leads, don't we? They start by killing defenseless animals, then they graduate to the big leagues. And if Terri dies, this particular killer-of-animals will have a human victim to add to his list. A human victim whose voice will only become the more powerful for her death--for after Terri's death, it will be impossible to silence the outcry that will come. Her voice will be heard, loud and clear, from the throats of every human who cares about life, and from every voting booth in every forthcoming election. The left sobbed piteously that it was morals and values that lost them the Presidency, and instead of correcting their mistake, they've signed their own political death warrant with this case. I wonder if they'll beg for mercy when we pull their political plug?

Patricia Heaton speaks out

Patricia Heaton has spoken out in defense of Terri Schiavo: "We must not let Terri Schiavo be starved to death," said Heaton. "This deliberate and painful destruction of a woman's life cannot be justified or tolerated. Terri deserves better."

Read the article here.

So much for "what Terri would have wanted"

From Larry King Live, March 18, 2005 comes the incredibly damning exchange below. Notice that King cuts Schiavo off as soon as Schiavo says "we didn't know what Terri wanted."

KING: Have you had any contact with the family today? This is a sad day all the way around, Michael. We know of your dispute.
M. SCHIAVO: I've had no contact with them.
KING: No contact at all?
M. SCHIAVO: No.
KING: Do you understand how they feel?
M. SCHIAVO: Yes, I do. But this is not about them, it's about Terri. And I've also said that in court. We didn't know what Terri wanted, but this is what we want...

Vote roll call--Terri Schiavo bill

Got it! Final Vote Results for Roll Call 90

Jim McDermott wants to kill your baby

Seriously, he does, at least if you take his rantings late last night one logical step further. Last night, Jim McDermott, D-Wash., said that feeding Terri Schiavo was the equivalent of hooking her to a respirator. That the use of a feeding tube is the equivalent of keeping someone breathing artificially.

Okay, let's take this to the next logical step, shall we? By that definition, "forcing" food down your baby's throat--after all, a 3-month-old cannot feed itself--is the equivalent of keeping that baby alive artificially, and therefore should be stopped at once. By judicial order.

Terri Schiavo cannot walk unaided. Neither can a 3-month-old baby.

Terri Schiavo cannot speak coherently. Neither can a 3-month-old baby.

Terri Schiavo cannot go to work or contribute to society. Neither can a 3-month-old baby.

Terri Schiavo cannot feed herself. Neither can a 3-month-old baby.

Terri Schiavo has a "useless mouth." So does, by that standard, a 3-month-old-baby.

For that matter, you can add Alzheimer's patients to the above sentences. And some severe Down's Syndrome patients. And many elderly people who have had debilitating strokes.

And by Jim McDermott's (D-Wash.) standards, anyone at all who is on an i.v. for any reason is being kept alive artificially.

Where do we stop? Where do we say it's all right to err on the side of life? Before or after we erect the gas chambers?

And here's a heads-up to the woman with whom Michael Schiavo has at least 2 kids--you'd better hope and pray that you never, never get sick around this man. You'd better fill out as many forms as you can and get them to a lawyer. And you'd better give away your jewelry before you get sick, because he'll melt it down for himself. And any pets you may have--well, Terri had cats that her parents wanted to take, and Michael killed them, so future-Mrs.-Schiavo, if you have any animals you love you'd be well-advised to give them to good homes as soon as possible. Because you never know when Michael will turn on you...or on your kids...

Terri Schiavo Bill Becomes Law

In the middle of the night last night, the government of this country proved that maybe, just maybe, it not only has a conscience, but the guts enough to act on that conscience.

Members of Congress rushed back to Washington for a rare weekend session to vote on the emergency bill backed by the Bush administration which cleared the Senate on a voice vote Sunday and the House - in a 203-58 vote - shortly after midnight.

"In cases like this one, where there are serious questions and substantial doubts, our society, our laws, and our courts should have a presumption in favor of life," said President Bush, in a written statement issued as he signed the bill.

"This presumption is especially critical for those like Terri Schiavo who live at the mercy of others," said Mr. Bush. "I appreciate the bipartisan action by the Members of Congress to pass this bill. I will continue to stand on the side of those defending life for all Americans, including those with disabilities."
CBS News Terri Schiavo Bill Becomes Law March 21, 2005 07:00:01

If we do not, as a society, put an end to this kind of killing--especially in cases where the victim cannot speak for themselves--then we will place ourselves squarely on a downhill slide where nothing is beyond reason. We will have become Nazi Germany. We will at that point no longer care who we kill, so long as it's in the name of "mercy" and "dignity." The elderly who gave us life, who worked long hours to put us through school, who loved and cared for us and saw to it that we had enough in life--they will no longer matter, especially if they cannot care for themselves any longer. Kill them.

The mentally handicapped who are just not up to speed, and who need to be cared for--kill them. It's the only "merciful" thing to do, after all.

Europe is already doing this, folks. Your baby was born very ill? Kill it.

Organizations like P.E.T.A. cannot defend animals enough--they claim to be the voice of the voiceless, and are upheld as shining examples of caring humanity by those on the left. The same left who scream themselves hoarse that a voiceless human woman must die. And when someone on the right dares to defend voiceless humans, they're "interfering" and whatever law they sign will be blocked at every turn as "unconstitutional." (That was perhaps my favorite spin this past weekend--that it's "unconstitutional" to defend someone's right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. I wonder how they sleep at night...)

And Michael Schiavo--what does he have to say? Well, he's "outraged" that Congress has dared to step in to defend his wife's right to keep breathing. Outraged. Again, I'm reminded of the principal who last week was "incredibly alarmed" not that a teacher made my daughter cry, but that I would dare to speak up in my child's defense. You won't hear speech like this from the majority of the left when it comes to defending human life. They aren't "outraged" when life is taken, unless it's the lives of Iraqi insurgents--then they're plenty outraged. They aren't incredibly alarmed that someone like Michael Schiavo--please read the fact sheet I posted--would demand that his wife be killed. Again, I have to wonder where the "outrage" would be if the woman in question was Teresa Kerry instead of Theresa Schiavo.

Oh, and Michael has one more thing to add, for those people who watched videos of Terri interacting with her parents:

"Anybody that thinks that she talks and responds, they need to have a mental health examination," he said.

Terri Schiavo fact sheet

Priests for Life .... are asking for their supporters' help in distributing [this fact sheet] to as many people as possible, so feel free to link to this article from your own website (or even copy-and-paste the entire text, if you wish), or...print it out and distribute it to those without Internet access.

Today, Terri Schiavo is fighting for her life. She is not dying... has no terminal illness... is not in a coma... and is not on life-support equipment.

She is not alone. Her loving parents and siblings are ready to care for her for the rest of her life.

She has not requested death.

She has sustained brain injuries and cannot speak or eat normally.

Nevertheless, the only tube attached to her is a feeding tube that provides nourishment directly to her digestive system.

She tries to speak. She focuses her eyes. She smiles. She attempts to kiss her parents.

She has received no physical therapy or rehabilitation since 1991... or tests since 1993.

She was not treated [that is, denied treatment] for life-threatening infections in 1993 and 1995.

Her teeth have not been cleaned since 1995... five teeth were extracted in 2004.

She has been denied the use of a wheelchair since 2000.

She has been forbidden from going outdoors since 2000.

Terri was fraudulently placed in hospice with the false claim of terminal (six months) life expectancy since 2000.

She was denied the Sacrament of the Sick and the Eucharist during an execution attempt in 2003.

There is an "exit protocol" in place for Terri at the hospice to hide evidence of her execution... with cremation ordered immediately upon her death.

She is forbidden to...

...practice her faith... no Mass, no Communion

...attend hospice home functions

...be photographed or videotaped to reveal her abilities

Her parents...

...have begged her estranged husband to let them take care of her... but he has refused

...have been denied medical information on Terri since 1993, in violation of a court order

...were taken off the visitor's list for a total of eight months from 2001-04.

Her estranged husband, Michael Schiavo, obtained a court order to euthanize Terri by starvation and dehydration in 2000... and Terri was forbidden her own legal representation.

A jury awarded him Terri's Medical Trust (nearly $1,000,000) because he promised to use it for Terri's life-long rehabilitation and therapy. However, he has spent the money to pay for his attorney, George Felos -- a "right to die" activist -- and Felos' partners so he can kill her.

He lives with another woman and has fathered at least two children since Terri's brain injury.

He melted down her wedding ring to make jewelry for himself.

He killed her beloved cats... even after Terri's parents offered to take care of them.

Now that you know the facts... help save Terri Schiavo's life!

"Devout Lutheran"

Someone on the radio said that Michael Schiavo is a "devout Lutheran." Okay, I looked in a book called Playing God: 50 Religions' Views on Your Right to Die to see just what the Lutheran official take on euthanasia is. Here's an interesting snippet, from page 138:

"...cases of lingering and painful illnesses provide the opportunity for prayer by the one who is sick as well as for the opportunity for fellow Christians to minister to the one who is suffering and perhaps dying and in so doing to minister to Christ Himself (cf. Matt. 25:40: 'Verily, I say unto you, whatever you did to one of my brothers here, however humble, you did to me.')."

So Mr. Schiavo would appear to me not such a "devout Lutheran" after all.

The Biblical quote above comes from the same bit where Jesus says that whoever feeds someone in His name is feeding Jesus Himself. Which would mean, conversely, that whoever starves an innocent person to death is starving Jesus, wouldn't it?

Keep your fingers crossed

This is hopeful--keep your fingers crossed Too much could go wrong...

Congressional leaders announced a compromise between Senate and House Republicans that would allow the brain-damaged woman's case to be reviewed by federal courts that could restore her feeding tube. Opposition waned after House leaders agreed to give up broader legislation and accept a narrowly crafted bill that applied only to Schiavo's case.

The Senate convened briefly Saturday evening to give formal permission for the House to meet Sunday, when it otherwise would be adjourned for the Easter recess.

The plan is for the House to act on the two-page bill Sunday or just after midnight Monday morning. Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist said the Senate then would act on the House legislation, assuming it passes the House as envisioned, and rush the bill to the president for signature into law.
