Requiescat in Pace, eternum...
I will not be online later, and I felt the need to post this now...It's one of my favorite pictures of the Holy Father, and seems so fitting...
Asperges me Domine, hyssopo, et mundabor:
lavabis me, et super nivem dealbabor.
Miserere mei, Deus, secundum magnam misericordiam tuam.
Gloria Patri, et Filio, et Spiritui Sancto,
Sicut erat in principio, et nunc, et semper, et in saecula saeculorum.
Amen

As we wait...
As we wait for official news from the Vatican, please keep the Pope in your prayers. The Italian media has said that he has died, but the Vatican is officially denying it as of this hour. The Pope's breathing has become shallow, and he is unconscious.
Pope John Paul II in grave condition
From Australia's The Age comes this disheartening news. Apparently the Pope has now suffered a heart attack...Please, pray for him...
Pope John Paul II suffered a heart attack and his condition is "very serious", Vatican spokesman Joaquin Navarro-Valls said today. "Following a urinary tract infection, septic shock and a cardiocirculatory collapse occurred," Navarro-Valls said in a statement. The 84-year-old pontiff was given the last rites yesterday, Italian media reported. The Vatican official says the Pope's heart attack comes on top off a urinary tract infection and septic shock. The Italian media has already reported that the 84-year-old pontiff has been given the last rites.

Two very different ways of viewing Terri's plight
If Michael Schiavo had met Yacov the Jerusalemite is an astonishing piece of writing. You will be left very near tears at the end of it, and if you have a caring bone in your body you will begin to see just what Michael Schiavo did to his wife, the wife he claimed to love...
The Empire Journal does it again
This is an amazing piece (and a detailed one) from The Empire Journal, who a few days ago had all of their Terri Schindler stories hacked. Thank God they had the files backed up.
Schiavo Case Tangled Web of Deception, Corruption
By June Maxam and Ginger Berlin© The Empire Journal
What a tangled web we weave when first we practice to deceive.
How applicable to the Terri Schiavo case.
Virtually as soon as Michael Schiavo received the monies from the medical malpractice claim involving his wife, Terri Schindler-Schiavo, he withheld all therapy and rehabilitation services from her.
Terri Schiavo had sustained a serious brain injury as the result of a suspicious incident in their home in 1990 and in 1992, her husband had filed claims against several of her former doctors, claiming her “collapse” was caused by a misdiagnosis. He received over $1.5 million in 1993 including $750,000 which had been specifically earmarked by the trial jury for Terri’s rehabilitation based on a life expectancy of 50 years. Hitler's T-4 program
I've posted already about this program, but I found another article about Nazi Euthanasia that I had to post here. Below are excerpts from this disturbing piece.
----Code named "Aktion T 4," the Nazi euthanasia program to eliminate "life unworthy of life" at first focused on newborns and very young children. Midwives and doctors were required to register children up to age three who showed symptoms of mental retardation, physical deformity, or other symptoms included on a questionnaire from the Reich Health Ministry.
A decision on whether to allow the child to live was then made by three medical experts solely on the basis of the questionnaire, without any examination and without reading any medical records. Each expert placed a + mark in red pencil or - mark in blue pencil under the term "treatment" on a special form. A red plus mark meant a decision to kill the child. A blue minus sign meant a decision against killing. Three plus symbols resulted in a euthanasia warrant being issued and the transfer of the child to a 'Children's Specialty Department' for death by injection or gradual starvation. The decision had to be unanimous. In cases where the decision was not unanimous the child was kept under observation and another attempt would be made to get a unanimous decision. [Does that last sentence remind you of anything? Does it remind you of Michael Schiavo's unending, relentless attempts to finally get a unanimous judicial decree that his wife should be put to death?]
----Questionnaires were...distributed to mental institutions, hospitals and other institutions caring for the chronically ill. Patients had to be reported if they suffered from schizophrenia, epilepsy, senile disorders, therapy resistant paralysis and syphilitic diseases, retardation, encephalitis, Huntington's chorea and other neurological conditions, also those who had been continuously in institutions for at least 5 years, or were criminally insane, or did not posses German citizenship or were not of German or related blood, including Jews, Negroes, and Gypsies. A total of six killing centers were established including the well known psychiatric clinic at Hadamar. The euthanasia program was eventually headed by an SS man named Christian Wirth, a notorious brute with the nickname 'the savage Christian.'
----Patients were generally drugged before being led naked into the gas chamber. Each killing center included a crematorium where the bodies were taken for disposal. Families were then falsely told the cause of death was medical such as heart failure or pneumonia. [Again, sound familiar? Terri's alleged heart attack? Terri's body headed for cremation?]
And the end result of T-4--The use of gas chambers at the euthanasia killing centers ultimately served as training centers for the SS. They used the technical knowledge and experience gained during the euthanasia program to construct huge killing centers at Auschwitz, Treblinka and other concentration camps in an attempt to exterminate the entire Jewish population of Europe. SS personnel from the euthanasia killing centers, notably Wirth, Franz Reichleitner and Franz Stangl later commanded extermination camps.

"Bigotry and the Murder of Terri Schiavo"
I found this wonderfully insightful and incisive article at the Harvard Crimson Online. America is in danger of becoming a country wherein we not only do not value minorities of any kind, but we are beginning to actively put them to death.
FOCUS: Bigotry and the Murder of Terri Schiavo
By JOE FORD
"Misery can only be removed from the world by painless extermination of the miserable."
—a Nazi writer quoted by Robert J. Lifton in The Nazi Doctors: Medical Killing and the Psychology of Genocide
The case of Terri Schiavo has been framed by the media as the battle between the “right to die” and pro-life groups, with the latter often referred to as “right-wing Christians.” Little attention has been paid to the more than twenty major disability rights organizations firmly supporting Schiavo’s right to nutrition and hydration. Terri Schindler-Schiavo, a severely disabled woman, is being starved and dehydrated to death in the name of supposed “dignity.” Polls show that most Americans believe that her death is a private matter and that her removal from a feeding tube—a low-tech, simple and inexpensive device used to feed many sick and disabled people—is a reasonable solution to the conflict between her husband and her parents over her right to life. Cheryl Ford and the killing of Terri Schindler
I found this chilling article dealing with plans for Terri's death--plans known as an "exit protocol"-- during the October 2003 scare. The article is too long to post here, even though I really want to. It makes for heartwrenching reading, so please visit the link above and read this article. Print it out, e-mail it to your friends. I'm going to be posting things that raise definite questions about Michael Schiavo here over the next few days.

Yet another injustice
You have got to wonder why Michael Schiavo hates the Schindlers so much, don't you? Now they will not even be allowed at Terri's burial. Why is this man doing this? Is he that obsessed with being the only person allowed anywhere near her (other than the oh-so-sensitive George Felos, of course)?
I was angry all day, now I'm just flat-out white-hot cold.
This has got to be one of the most ridiculous things I have ever heard, seriously. Does he think this weird, bizarre, childishly inexplicable tantrum is going to gain him any more supporters? Chances are, they'll all start jumping ship with this latest outrage.

The Pope's condition has worsened
Pope John Paul II's condition has worsened, and he has a high fever. Updates as I get them, meanwhile please pray for this truly holy man...
Prayers
Beliefnet has some very comforting prayers, as well as a lovely online memorial for Terri. Please click here to visit Beliefnet. Here is a link for specifically Jewish prayers, including the Mourner's Kaddish. If anyone would like to add their favorite prayers, or links to prayer sites, please leave them as Comments.
A life saved?
Terri's plight may have already saved the life of another woman. From ReadingEagle comes this incredible news:
A petition to remove the feeding tube of a severely brain damaged Berks County woman has been withdrawn, ending a legal battle over the woman’s fate, those close to the case said Wednesday. Donna M. Matincheck, 44, will continue to receive life-sustaining treatment at the Mifflin Center in Cumru Township, where she resides. Matincheck, formerly of Reading, has been in a persistent vegetative state since 1982, when she suffered an apparent aneurysm while delivering her first child. Her guardian and former mother-in-law, Joan L. Matincheck of Elizabethtown, Lancaster County, had been seeking to have the tube removed but withdrew that request in paperwork filed Monday in Berks County Court. Donna Matincheck’s mother, Margaret “Peggy” R. Younkin, of Lee Center, N.Y., had objected to the petition, saying she wanted her daughter kept alive.

The final hours
This quote from Cheryl Ford, R.N., about the last hours of Terri Schindler's life, makes me tremble. I am filled with such roiling emotions right now that I cannot think clearly. Sorrow, anger, bewilderment, disbelief, horror, fear...
Michael Schiavo denied Terri's mother, father, sister and brother the right to be with her. He would not permit them into hospice even though it was her parents who brought her into this world. George Felos was seen going into her room with a large black bag and Michael Schiavo denied access to Bobby at 1AM this morning. - Cheryl Ford, R.N.
Father Frank Pavone, national director of Priests for Life (linked in my sidebar) had this to say: "Unfortunately, just 10 or so minutes before she died we were told we had to leave the room because there would be an assessment of her condition and because her husband Michael wanted to be in the room....His heartless cruelty continued until the end."
Jeb has issued this statement, significantly without mention of Michael Schiavo, the last paragraph of which should become a rallying cry for all of us who cared about this woman we never met:
“After an extraordinarily difficult and tragic journey, Terri Schiavo is at rest. Columba and I offer our condolences to Mr. and Mrs. Schindler, Bobby Schindler, Suzanne Vitadamo and to all those who offered their prayers and support to Terri’s family over these past weeks, months and years. These prayers were not in vain.
“Many across our state and around the world are deeply grieved by the way Terri died. I feel that grief very sharply as well. I remain convinced, however, that Terri’s death is a window through which we can see the many issues left unresolved in our families and in our society. For that, we can be thankful for all that the life of Terri Schiavo has taught us.
“I still firmly believe that human life is a gift and a mystery, and that its mystery is most evident at its beginning and ending. May all of us whose hearts were moved during the life of Terri Schiavo grow in wisdom at its ending.”

Requiescat in Pace, eternum...
Theresa Marie Schindler has died...
Requiescat (Oscar Wilde)
Tread lightly, she is near
Under the snow,
Speak gently, she can hear
The daisies grow.
All her bright golden hair
Tarnished with rust,
She that was young and fair
Fallen to dust.
Lily-like, white as snow,
She hardly knew
She was a woman, so
Sweetly she grew.
Coffin-board, heavy stone,
Lie on her breast,
I vex my heart alone
She is at rest.
Peace, Peace, she cannot hear
Lyre or sonnet,
All my life's buried here,
Heap earth upon it.

It begins
Michael Schiavo last night graciously allowed two of Terri's friends to bring each one rose to her. He then banned all visitors from her family and friends. The deathwatch has therefore begun, make no mistake. Terri will likely die today. Her breathing is no doubt now the labored attempt to catch breath known as the "death rattle." She will soon begin to convulse as her body breaks down completely. It is too late to save her life, despite the truly heroic efforts of people like George Bush, Jeb Bush, Joe Lieberman, Mel Gibson, and Jesse Jackson. She will become the perfect murder.
Bobby Schindler, Terri's brother, was interviewed on Laura Ingraham's radio show yesterday, and that interview can be found here. Please listen to it--it will break your heart.
One of the most interesting takes on the case has to come from Dr. Crawford, who said that "Michael Schiavo is very genuine. He is the hero in this case. One reason is that he is a real man of principle." Man of principle...A man of principle, a "hero," who allows only escorted visits to his dying wife. A "hero" who feels the need to order that a Monsignor's hand be held while that priest visits Terri. A "hero" who is so terrified that word will get out of just what Terri is truly experiencing right now that he bans her own blood family from visiting her on what is probably the last day of her life.
There is a song called "Mary Did You Know," and it's lyrics keep echoing in my head today. It's obviously about the Virgin and Jesus, but every time I see Mary Schindler's face, the lyrics come...
The autopsy--I still maintain that unless we put pressure on people to release the entire report, we will only get the bits and bobs that Michael Schiavo allows us. We will only see the extent of brain damage, not the condition of Terri's heart. Not the condition of Terri's bones. Because, quite frankly, Michael Schiavo cannot allow any of that to be seen.

Autopsy decision never was up to Michael Schiavo
BlogsForTerri has found a very funny (funny not as in ha-ha-ha, but as in "what smells so funny in the fridge?") thing--seems the "hero" Michael Schiavo was never really in charge of deciding whether or not to allow an autopsy. Which is something I should have realized if I'd thought it through, I suppose. It just seems that he is such an all-powerful figure in this case, to the point of demanding--and getting--armed police guards surrounding any visitor to Terri's room that Michael himself doesn't like, such as the Catholic Monsignor. (For non-Catholics, a Monsignor is a priest who has risen through the ranks--the next steps up are Bishop, Archbishop, and Cardinal. The Pope is elected from the ranks of Cardinals.)
"He doesn't have any choice in the matter,'' said Bill Pellan, director of investigations for the Pinellas-Pasco Medical Examiner's Office. Medical Examiner Jon Thogmartin decides when an autopsy is required under state law, Pellan said.

Jodi Centonze, centerfold?
Since this pic has had over 70 views and is in danger of falling off the end of my blog, I've reposted it here for a few days. This is Jodi Centonze, Michael Schiavo's fiancee and mother of his kids. Future Mrs. Michael Schiavo. Once the old one is finally dead and cremated and forgotten. Also, and I'm not divulging where I got this, but it's possible that a major men's magazine is looking at pictures of Jodi Centonze, perhaps as a sort of prelim to approaching her. Could there be an offer in the offing? How much would they offer her, I wonder? And would she accept? After all, according to Michael, they're practically paupers living on the street.
Third Horseman
Yet another reminder, much more graphic than my last one, of just what, exactly, we're talking about when we speak of "pulling the plug" and allowing someone to starve to death. This child obviously never had any plugs to pull, but the end result, the hideous and evil end result, will be the same...
George Felos has a nasty fetish
Well, maybe I shouldn't call it a fetish, I could get sued. So I'll just say that George Felos (Michael Schiavo's attorney) has a seeming obsession with death and dying. He said that Terri had never looked more beautiful, more peaceful, than she does right now. I would invite anyone reading that statement to do a search on "starvation" images, and see just what George Felos means by "beauty."
Sean Hannity today read a chilling excerpt from Felos' book, Litigation as Spiritual Practice. I've found a website that has detailed excerpts, and I am pasting some of them here. They're obviously taken out of context, since I don't have this piece of garbage book in front of me, and any mistakes aren't mine. The writing itself is copyrighted by George Felos, I would assume. Remember, this man is allowed into Terri's death chamber, where even the local Monsignor may not go without an armed escort to watch his every move. This man, this little Mengele, this man Terri does not know, is allowed in Terri's bedroom. If that doesn't send chills down your spine, I don't know what else could.
----Felos visits Mrs. Browning for the first time. Browning, who was radically debilitated by a stroke, was a resident of a nursing home for more than a year and one-half when Mrs. Herbert, her cousin and caregiver, sought to have the feeding tube removed, honoring Mrs. Browning living will. He writes of his meeting, including a “soul-speak” conversation: “‘Mrs. Browning, do you want to die? … Do you want to die?’—I near shouted as I continued to peer into her pools of strikingly beautiful but incognizant blue. It was so eerie. Her eyes were wide open and crystal clear, but instead of the warmth of lucidity, they burned with the ice of expressionlessness.”
----“As I continued to stay beside Mrs. Browning at her nursing home bed, I felt my mind relax and my weight sink into the ground. I began to feel light-headed as I became more reposed. Although feeling like I could drift into sleep, I also experienced a sense of heightened awareness. As Mrs. Browning lay motionless before my gaze, I suddenly heard a loud, deep moan and scream and wondered if the nursing home personnel heard it and would respond to the unfortunate resident. In the next moment, as this cry of pain and torment continued, I realized it was Mrs. Browning. I felt the mid-section of my body open and noticed a strange quality to the light in the room. I sensed her soul in agony. As she screamed I heard her say, in confusion, ‘Why am I still here … why am I here?’ My soul touched hers and in some way I communicated that she was still locked in her body. I promised I would do everything in my power to gain the release her soul cried for. With that the screaming immediately stopped. I felt like I was back in my head again, the room resumed its normal appearance, and Mrs. Browning, as she had throughout this experience, lay silent.”
----Felos illustrates this power in his own life by describing an incident while on a plane during a time when he was engaged in a “right-to-die” case and had become very involved in the hospice movement. He pondered, “I wonder what it would be like to die right now?” and “indulged the thought by imagining the plane starting to lose it trajectory and descend.” The plane did, creating chaos in the cabin as people began to realize the plane was going to crash. “Needless to say, the juxtaposition of my imagined death and the possibility of a real demise heightened for me my different reactions. I assure you, my hubris in assuming that I would meet a life-ending crash with equanimity was not lost on me.” (181-182) The pilot later explained to the passengers that there was an unexplained problem with the auto pilot which caused the momentary descent. “At that instant a clear, distinctly independent and slightly stern voice said to me, ‘Be careful what you think. You are more powerful than you realize.’ In quick succession I was startled, humbled and blessed by God’s admonishment.”
----Felos writes, “…there I was on the holiday news—Mrs. Browning’s white knight, stalwart at his covered desk, intently crafting her plea of last hope [her hope to die] to the Supreme Court. Did I love it! And given the strenuous effort, I much appreciated the positive reinforcement.”
Is anyone else getting the mental picture I am? Is anyone else seeing this man now for what he is? Don't tell me this kind of stuff is normal, because I won't believe it. Please click the link above and read the whole page--some of the things on there are truly mindboggling.

Italian Prime Minister weighs in on Terri Schindler
Italy's government has recently defended one of its citizens, the Communist journalist Sgrena who was accidentally shot at by U.S. forces in Iraq. Not one left-of-center person in the U.S. has yet to come out with a statement that the Italian government shouldn't step to the plate for one of Italy's citizens. And yet that's exactly what they're saying about the U.S. government's attempts to save one American life....sigh....
You have to wonder what the picture would look like if Kerry had won, and if Kerry decided to be man enough to stand up and be the Catholic he's claimed to be. Would they be screaming for Terri's blood if Kerry were the one defending her? I somehow doubt it.
Anyway, the Italian Prime Minister had this to say about Terri Schindler: "It is a problem that concerns everybody's conscience. I'm Catholic and I think that only God can take life."

KGB behind attempted assassination of Pope John Paul II
Seems the KGB contracted the attempted assassination of Pope John Paul II in 1981. I told you he's hated...And now that he's on a feeding tube, how long will it be before the media is screaming that the Cardinals need to "pull the plug" on the ailing Pope? My bet is that the cry will go out for his death by Friday.

Joan Kennedy found concussed on Boston street
Joan Kennedy has been admitted to the hospital after being found concussed in the street.
Details of exactly what happened and how she ended up in the street were unclear. There was no police report on the incident. Joan Kennedy, who divides her time between Cape Cod and a Boston condominium, has struggled with alcoholism. She spent time in a number of rehabilitation programs following arrests for drunken driving.

Muslims plan to disrupt Jewish visit to Jewish holy site
Muslims allegedly connected to Hamas are planning to disrupt a planned visit by 10,000 Jewish people to the Temple Mount.
My one and only comment here is simply this--the Temple belongs to the Jews. It belonged to them way before any usurpation by any other religion. Okay, now I've voiced where I stand on that issue, I have no doubt I will begin receiving hate mail and obnoxious comments. Fine.

I guess that makes me...
Apparently only a very small section of humanity, namely rabidly habitual--or perhaps habitually rabid--angry white men are upset that Terri Schindler is being slowly murdered in Florida. At least, that's what Jonathan Klein says.
So what does that make me? And Ann Coulter? And, for that matter, Jesse Jackson? Jonathan Klein has some 'splainin' to do...And isn't it interesting that this same Klein badmouthed bloggers, and was formerly vice president of CBS before heading over to become president of CNN?

CodeBlueBlog offers $100,000
From CodeBlueBlog comes a $100,000 challenge.
I am offering $100,000 on a $25,000 wager for ANY neurologist (and $125,000 for any neurologist/bioethicist) involved in Terri Schiavo's case--including all the neurologists reviewed on television and in the newspapers who can accurately single out PVS patients from functioning patients with better than 60% accuracy on CT scans.
I will provide 100 single cuts from 100 different patient's brain CT's. All the neurologist has to do is say which ones represent patients with PVS and which do not.
If the neurologist can be right 6 out of 10 times he wins the $100,000.
I can't wait to see the outcome of this one...I wonder what the mainstream media would make of such a challenge?

Obsession
I have now been accused twice of being "obsessed" with Terri Schindler's plight, and I'm wondering how often this word is now cropping up on other pro-life blogs and websites. My only answer to these people is "of course I'm obsessed, how can I not be?"
How can I not be "obsessed" with saving a life? How many of these people who think I'm "obsessed" would stop and try to help someone on the side of the road who was obviously in need of help? (I did, a few weeks ago--the only car to stop, by the way, this "obsessed" woman--and the person who was sitting in their own car unmoving turned out to be a diabetic deeply in need of help. She'd have died there if I hadn't been "obsessed" with helping others). They'll tell you that every single one of them would have stopped--which makes me wonder why every car that passed by was filled with Republicans and conservatives with not one leftist in the bunch. Give me a break...
How many of these people so eager to call me "obsessed" would go out of their way to save a beached whale or a rainforest, yet are now either silent about a human being's death or else screaming that it's all politics (after trotting out yet another of their fake documents), or screaming that it's not our place to determine God's will? They would go to prison to save a bunny rabbit, but still hate George Bush so much that they are goose-stepping their way down a path that leads in only one direction.
This isn't about politics, so please spare me any further attempts to turn this whole thing into an issue on Iraq. Jesse Jackson and Joseph Lieberman have at least proven that they are man enough to rise above the supposed "political" side of this and cast their votes heavily on the side of life. Or did the left not notice Reverend Jackson comforting the Schindlers, praying with them, vowing to take their fight as far as he can today?
As for Iraq--it's a war. Period. The soldiers who went weren't drafted into the services, they joined deliberately. They knew the risks. It's a war wherein a truly evil man was torn from power, and that power was restored to the Iraqi people, who held their first election since the '50s. It hasn't become the feared "quagmire" of Vietnam, and perhaps this is what's really upsetting the left--not enough lives have been lost in the past two years to satisfy their trumpeting claims that it would become a quagmire...
Again, yes, I am "obsessed," and proud of it. Why, I wonder, are the left so obsessed themselves with this issue? Because they are, they worry it like a broken tooth. Why are they so obsessed with killing this one woman? I'll tell you why--because they know that if they lose this one, if she lives, then they will have lost footing in the killing of unborn children. They will have lost footing in the drive to legalize "assisted suicide" in every State. They want her to die because they are a cult and a culture of death. It'll be the Pope's death they demand next, for he's being fed now through a tube. And after that, after they bring down the hated Catholic leader (whom they hate nearly as much as they hate the Bush family), they'll start on "assisted suicide" for Alzheimer's patients. And after that, to quote any evil genius in any B movie you care to name, "after that, the world! Bwa-ha-ha-ha-ha!"

Tiny window of hope
This is so crucial that I am posting it in its entirety as it appears on BlogsForTerri. Jesse Jackson may just be able to save her life. Keep praying...
Jackson: More Senators Back Bid to Save Terri - We May Have Enough Votes!
- Breaking News from NewsMax
Rev. Jesse Jackson said Tuesday afternoon that he has persuaded two Florida state senators to change their votes on a bill to save Terri Schiavo, leaving the measure just one vote shy of the majority necessary for passage.
"Two of them have committed to meeting with Gov. Jeb Bush. They say that they're flexible if they can find acceptable emergency language," Jackson told ABC Radio host Sean Hannity.
Targeting members of the state senate's black caucus in a bid to save Schiavo, Jackson explained: "While we didn't have the specific language today, if I could just get them to shift their will to do whatever [we can] within the law to help her live, that would be a victory."
"They've made that commitment," the civil rights leader added. "I hope it turns into something concrete, signed by morningtime."
Asked if he thought he'd convert the additional vote that would guarantee passage, Jackson said: "If we get two - with the help of Gov. Jeb Bush, we can get three. . . If I was able to persuade two - if he could persuade one, we can change that vote."
The top Democrat said he had contacted the governor's office and was awaiting a return call, saying, "I hope that he will call me and I hope to share with him my position."
Jackson said he would return to Florida tomorrow if he determines it is "the best, most effective way" to save Schiavo.
"I will fly to Tallahassee or Washington or anyplace," he said.

Jodi Centonze
The elusive Jodi Centonze, Michael Schiavo's current lover, mother of his children, and future Mrs. Schiavo (once the current Mrs. Schiavo dies, of course).
Fake but accurate redux
It isn't CBS this time. Maybe Mary Mapes is now working for ABC. ABC received an apparently Republican talking points memo dealing with things Republicans should say regarding Terri Schindler. It now would appear that the memo is fake. Then again, ABC is also the network that published the fake poll on Terri, so we shouldn't really be surprised.
Tabby cats
Michael Schiavo, who killed Terri's real cats after he placed her in hospice, has now apparently given her a stuffed tabby cat to snuggle while she dies. He also claims her room is filled with flowers. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the whole basis of his "persistent vegetative state" claim that she is not aware of her surroundings? That she does not react to any stimuli around her? That every one of her reactions is "reflexive?" Hmmm...
PeaceCorps
"she looked beautiful."
"calm, peaceful, resting comfortably."
Quotes from Michael Schiavo's attorney George Felos.
Contrast Felos' claims with this picture from peacecorpsonline.org.
Jesse Jackson to visit hospice
The Reverend Jesse Jackson will visit the Woodside Hospice today and meet with the Schindler family. There will be a press conference this morning, details and a moving quote from Rev. Jackson:
Press Conference Details---
When: Tuesday, March 29, at approximately 9:30 AM
Where: In front of the Woodside Hospice, where Terri lives, located at 6774 102nd Avenue N. (near 66th Street N and 102nd Avenue N) in Pinellas Park, Florida.
Who: Rev. Jesse L. Jackson, Sr., founder and president of the RainbowPUSH Coalition
Why: "I think the feeding tube should be reinstated. This is a very tough emotional, ethical, political issue. But you know she is brain impaired, she is not brain-dead. And right now they're starving her to death. They're dehydrating her to death, and that raises profound ethical questions. That tube should be reinstated. She is not brain-dead. She's brain impaired. It's not right to starve her to death. That's not right ethically." -- Rev. Jesse Jackson

Autopsy to be allowed
Michael Schiavo will allow an autopsy to be performed on Terri Schindler. Before you get excited, he has said that he wants the extent of her brain damage to be fully proven. He has said nothing about the alleged heart attack that supposedly occured in their home in 1990, with no-one present but Terri and himself. He has said nothing about the contentious and disturbing bonescan that would appear to prove Terri was beaten.
Therefore, here's my prediction--there will be an autopsy, and the entire report will be sealed by Michael Schiavo except the part dealing specifically and only with Terri's brain damage. Please, click the links here and here to continue to fight for a full and public autopsy report.

I received this link from Julie--thank you, Julie! It's a heartbreaking read when we remember that Terri Schindler's going through this as we speak...

The human heart--a question for physicians and scientists
The scenario--a healthy 27-year-old woman has collapsed on her bedroom floor, facedown on the carpet. Her husband claims she has had a massive heart attack due to a potassium deficiency. No heart attack is ever, however, documented. The woman is without oxygen to her brain for 5 full minutes, causing severe brain damage. Cause is unknown, since, as I said, no heart attack was ever actually documented.
Fast forward 15 years. For the past 10 years this same woman has been deprived of every possible medical and nonmedical treatment. Nobody is even allowed to brush her teeth. She has one infection after another, every one of them untreated, and yet she recovers each and every time. She cannot feed herself, but she can breathe on her own and is not hooked to any other form of tube other than a feeding tube, despite the known fact that she can swallow her own saliva and such foods as jello. The feeding tube is removed by order of her husband.
Fast forward 10 days. Only 10 days. This now-41-year-old otherwise healthy woman has been without nourishment or hydration for 10 days. This woman whose husband claimed that she had a massive heart attack 15 years prior is fighting grimly for her life.
10 days. That's my question, and it's a serious one. Can someone who had a massive heart attack at 27, was deprived of oxygen for 5 minutes and suffered brain damage, survive for 10 days without food and water 15 years after the alleged heart attack? I really would like to hear from anyone who might have anything to say about this...

Dutch fleeing Holland--why?
The New York Times carried this article wherein is found the following bit (all emphasis below is mine):
AMSTERDAM - Paul Hiltemann had already noticed a darkening mood in the Netherlands. He runs an agency for people wanting to emigrate and his client list had surged. But he was still taken aback in November when a Dutch filmmaker was shot and his throat was slit, execution style, on an Amsterdam street. In the weeks that followed, Mr. Hiltemann was inundated by e-mail messages and telephone calls. "There was a big panic," he said, "a flood of people saying they wanted to leave the country."
Okay, granted, due to that shooting of the filmmaker, people might be a tad nervous. But does anyone connect that NYT article with this one from The Weekly Standard? Probably not...Of course, we wouldn't want to admit that a great many Dutch might just be fleeing Holland because the doctors there are euthanizing newborns without parental consent, now would we?
From The Weekly Standard :
In the Netherlands, 31 percent of pediatricians have killed infants. A fifth of these killings were done without the "consent" of parents. Going Dutch has never been so horrible.
by Wesley J. Smith 09/13/2004 12:00:00 AM
FIRST, Dutch euthanasia advocates said that patient killing will be limited to the competent, terminally ill who ask for it. Then, when doctors began euthanizing patients who clearly were not terminally ill, sweat not, they soothed: medicalized killing will be limited to competent people with incurable illnesses or disabilities. Then, when doctors began killing patients who were depressed but not physically ill, not to worry, they told us: only competent depressed people whose desire to commit suicide is "rational" will have their deaths facilitated. Then, when doctors began killing incompetent people, such as those with Alzheimer's, it's all under control, they crooned: non-voluntary killing will be limited to patients who would have asked for it if they were competent. And now they want to euthanize children.

Storming heaven
The Catholic Media Coalition has some fascinating and deeply poignant articles on Terri. Below is one of their calls to action:
The Catholic Media Coalition calls on all Catholics to storm heaven on Terri's behalf . We entreat our bishops and clergy to ask their local diocesan and parish congregations to pray for Terri's deliverance and for the conversion of Michael Schiavo, his attorney, euthanasia advocate George Felos, and Judge George Greer. We beg all people of good will to join in this mission of mercy.
(Contact information for the U.S. bishops is available at http://www.usccb.org/bishops.htm.) Also contact Governor Jeb Bush and ask for a criminal investigation of Terri's apparent abuse and for a grand jury investigation of Judge George Greer. Governor Bush can be reached at (850) 488-4441 or by e-mail at jeb.bush@myflorida.com
Many ethicists and pro-life leaders have defended Terri's right to life. Some of these statements are available at our website. Euthanasia

And yet more Centonze family...
Yes, I'm getting sick of seeing this name pop up everywhere, but this is so intriguing I had to post it. Convince me that the state of Florida isn't being supported out of Michael Schiavo's pocket. Convince me that what is happening to Terri Schindler isn't outright, bald-faced murder.
Senator Jim King: Remarking on the passage of Terri’s Law, which he originally upheld, Sen. King said, it was "probably one of the worst votes that I've ever done." King opined he wouldn’t want his “legacy” (of passing death-enhancing laws) to be ruined by the Schiavo case. The Hemlock Society applauded Hospice board member King.
Follow the money: Sen. King’s campaign contributors include Richard M. Jerger Jr., of the same name and address as listed on Jerger & Centonze Insurance. Jodi Centonze is Michael Schiavo's live-in girlfriend, and the mother of his two illegitimate children. Why were Jerger and Centonze contributing to Sen. King when they live in another district?

Speaking of the Centonze family...
This is from 2004. The Schindlers had been denied any access whatsoever to their daughter for two solid months, and begging and pleading with Michael Schiavo produced no results (remember, this is the man the pro-death camp would have you believe loves Terri so much that he's desperate to carry out her wishes). Only an e-mail from a Schindler attorney got the family the right to visit with their child. Check out who the supervisor of the visit was...
The Schindlers grew increasingly angry over the continued denial, but Michael remained adamantly opposed to any visits. Then on Saturday, one of Schiavo's attorneys, George Felos, responded to an e-mail request for visitation from the Schindler's attorney, Patricia Anderson.
Felos said Terri's parents could visit the next day from 1 to 2 p.m., but they couldn't be alone with her. As he had done during Terri's week-long starvation in October, Michael would send a "representative" to stay with them in the room and monitor the visit.
Anderson phoned the Schindlers with the news.
The representative was a young woman, Gloria Centonze, a relative of Schiavo's girlfriend, Jodi Centonze, with whom he's been living for nine years and with whom he has two children.
Gloria remained in the room throughout the visit.
Also extremely interesting is the fact that Michael Schiavo is apparently an insurance agent. Yes, an insurance agent...Er, sorry, an insurnace agent...

A cruise to the end of all things good...
Thanks, Julie and Cheryl, for the link about the Felos cruise. Here it is complete with the name "Felos" stamped all over it...
Life usurped
My daily e-mail from Zenit contained a beautiful article about a British Catholic Cardinal. I was struck by his use of the words "life usurped" for that is exactly what is happening worldwide. Life has been usurped, the throne of life has been stolen by the angels of death in a quite real sense, and the divide between the two camps widens daily, sometimes by the hour or minute. You can see it on television, in the eyes of those praying still outside Woodside Hospice in Florida.
The Cardinal's sermon proves too that this isn't just an American problem, but rather a global one, which is one way in which this all differs from Nazi Germany--that particular officially sanctioned program of eugenics was confined to one country, one State. It has now spread, cancerlike, throughout the globe, and become the single most dividing issue of our times. The Democratic Party in the U.S. admitted after the last Presidential election that it was values and morals that lost them the White House, values and morals that included the debate over abortion. They also said that perhaps, if Kerry had left abortion entirely off the menu of issues, they might have stood a chance. We can see, watching a bigamous adulterer murder his first wife before our very eyes in the name of "mercy," listening to the prayers of the protestors and the anger and despair in the voices of Matt Drudge and Michael Savage and Sean Hannity, that values and morals matter very deeply to one section of society--and not at all to the other.
Yes, that is a sweeping statement for me to make, but it is nonetheless true--all you need do on any given day is listen to both sides of any issue involving a moral choice. The left has come down strongly on the side of the bigamous adulterer, while the right...well, let's just say that they haven't ;) If the left continues to defy morality, to spit in the face of common human decency, they will continue to lose elections, and then sit there and scratch their heads in confusion and wonder why on earth most Americans don't agree that their Cult-o-Death would be the perfect thing for us. And then they'll whine yet again--and again, and again--that it was values and morals that lost whichever election was lost, and scratch their heads some more that Americans can't seem to let go of our idiotic moral principles and just give in, let go, go down for the third time and admit that the angels of death own the throne...
Cardinals in United Kingdom Warn About Life IssuesEaster Homily Cites Terri Schiavo
EDINBURGH, Scotland, MARCH 27, 2005
(Zenit.org).- In his Easter Sunday homily, Cardinal Keith O'Brien contended that society has lost sight of the sacred nature of human life. "May we all continue to preach that Gospel of life by our words and by our actions –- as we value more and more life unborn, life unfulfilled, and life usurped in our own journeys towards life unending in the company of our Risen Lord Jesus Christ," he said in the homily prepared for the faithful gathered in St. Mary's Cathedral.

Michael Schiavo's attorney
I'm trying to track down a link that works for this. Not surprisingly, the link pasted below returns a 404 Error message, which is interesting in and of itself. Seems George Felos, aside from contributing campaign $$$ to Judge Greer, was also part of the faculty on an "end of life issues" cruise in 2004.

The Centonze family
This is soooo cozy. Must be quite the time around the table at gatherings...
--John Centonze is one of Michael Schiavo's best friends.
--Jodi Centonze is John Centonze's sister.
--John Centonze's wife Gloria "was one of Terri's caregivers" in 1990, according to page 59 of the April 4, 2005 issue of People magazine.
--Jodi Centonze once also helped care for Terri, to the point of washing Terri's linens.
--Jodi Centonze has borne Michael Schiavo two (or more) children.
If those stark facts don't send chills down your spine, you're made of sterner stuff than I am...

Terri's autopsy
I got this from BlogsForTerri, and have already e-mailed it to Jeb.Bush@MyFlorida.com and wpellan@co.pinellas.fl.us as well as, for good measure, president@whitehouse.gov ALSO just found this interesting website, District Six Medical Examiner's Office , where you can request an autopsy online. Anyway, the form letter to the governor and coroner (the wpellan e-mail address) is:
When Terri Schiavo dies, the potential exists that a crime will be covered up by her planned cremation without autopsy. That potential crime is NOT the issue at the center of the present controversy, but the yet unsubstantiated allegation that an assault led to her condition in the first place.
It has been reported in the press that Michael Schiavo intends to cremate Terri Schiavo immediately upon her death.
According to the Medical Examiner's department policy posted at: http://www.co.pinellas.fl.us/forensics/policy/policystatement.htm# CA , the medical examiner must approve or deny all such requests.
The attending physician in Terri Schiavo's case has a history of 5 NPDB reported malpractice cases. There is an open quesiton of what led to her original "event".
Please disallow the cremation until the medical examiner's office can perform an appropriate investigation and/or postmortem examination to determine both the immediate cause of death AND the proximate cause of death, including the search for any injuries from the past consistent with a potential crime.
Despite the currently accepted rationale for her initial “event”, evidence on postmortem examination may reveal that Terri Schiavo was the victim of a crime many years ago.
Judge Greer has not allowed an MRI or PET Scan. PET scans are of no value post mortem, but MRI may have some limited benefit, in addition to the physical autopsy, particularly for small, old injuries to ligaments and muscles that would be consistent with a trauma that occurred due to a crime (e.g. strangulation or abuse) if one had occurred.
If there are perpetrators of a crime covering something up, they will not want such an examination done. They will be afraid of justice.
Please act now to assure no authorization is given for cremation without a proper investigation and autopsy to address these issues.
Sincerely,

Continuing the fight
I've been reflecting on such things as redemption and resurrection and the power of love today. It's Easter morning, and likely to be Theresa Marie Schindler's last Easter. We have fought long and hard to save her life, and it looks now as if we are going to lose that particular battle. But we have not lost the war. We must continue to fight for the voiceless...
For me, this has become my calling, a realization that I do not take lightly. There have been posts on other sites where people have said such things as "duct-tape her [Terri's] mouth" or blamed Terri's parents or accused those fighting for Terri's life of simply not caring, or not caring enough. One woman ranted that not one of us would have the courage to change Terri's linens, to actually physically care for her. This woman went on and on and on about how vile it would be to care for Terri, or for anyone in Terri's condition, then threw down the gauntlet by mocking all of Terri's supporters. (And the duct-tape comment was very, very real. The person then went on to say that he was sick of hearing about this, and said that Terri "bugs.") Another woman dared to say that perhaps Mary Schindler has Munchhausen's Syndrome by Proxy, the disease whereby a parent causes illness in their child because they crave the attention for themselves.
Viewed from inside the front lines, I can say that there is no lack of caring on the part of anyone who has become involved in this. The enormous blogroll listing sites fighting for Terri should be enough to prove that. And to the people who have said that Terri's mouth should be duct-taped, I can only say that I am honestly praying for you. As for changing Terri's linens--it would be a difficult job, I will not deny that--but Christ left us with a charge, and it's a charge we must keep. Loving Terri, caring for Terri, bringing her water and helping her, changing her diapers--no, it would not be an arduous task, because we would be doing it with love. The same love we would show anyone in her condition. Hard, yes. Impossible, no. And on Easter morning, we should remember what one man did out of love. And like Simon the Cyrene, we should be willing to pick up someone's cross and carry it for them awhile. Terri's cross. The crosses of Alzheimer's patients. The crosses of those afflicted with AIDS. The crosses of tsunami victims. The cross of Christ.
From BlogsforTerri this morning, this announcement:
BlogsForTerri and the Terri Schindler Schiavo Foundation are planning to join forces in a long-term mission to support life, and to defeat the emerging culture of death in America and the judicial system that supports it.
The effort, still in the planning stages, will be non-partisan, and will focus on the sanctity of human life and the defeat of euthanasia by judicial fiat. Liberals and conservatives, Democrats, Republicans, and independents, will be asked to continue to work together as we are doing for Terri, by focusing on the many views that we share in common, and working together to minimize those few views that we have differing opinions on.
