Granola for life

From Catholic Online comes this great little story on quite literally putting your money where your mouth is, and practicing what you preach. Please go to this link to read the whole story.

CLARKSTON, Mich. (CNS) -- Some people join pro-life marches. Others may silently pray. Michaelene Hearn uses granola. Proceeds from Sweetnola for Life, a dessert granola created by Hearn with rolled oats, honey, sunflower seeds and chocolate-covered peanuts, are going to pro-life organizations. With other flavors such as Heavenly Organic Granola and Simply Sunny & Honey, she decided to take a direct approach and target her newest creation for life. "I wanted to do something special," said Hearn, who attends two parishes in the Detroit suburban area of Oakland County. "I wanted a granola for life."

Fast track to sainthood

Pope Benedict XVI has opened the process that will lead to Pope John Paul II's canonization. Apparently, reports of miracles associated with the late pontiff have been flooding in to the Vatican. The only other time a fast-track to sainthood was initiated was by Pope John Paul II for Mother Theresa, now Blessed Mother Theresa of Calcutta.

Fixed "Race"?

Okay, back to "Amazing Race" for just a sec--was it fixed so that Rob and Amber would be almost guaranteed to lose? Seems highly bizarre that an American Airlines pilot--one of the two airlines used to attack this country on September 11th--would stop the plane, pull back to the gangway, allow said gangway to be reattached to the plane, and open the door so that two unticketed people could board. Yeah. Okay. Homeland security? What's that? Flying unticketed passengers into Miami just because they ask to be let aboard? Sure, why not... (Rob and Amber, contrary to Uchenna and Joyce, had purchased waiting list tickets on that flight.)

They wuz robbed

Romber

Yes, Uchenna and Joyce are a great couple and they deserve every happiness in the world. But they were outplayed--as were the rest of the "Amazing Race" teams--by Rob and Amber. If Uchenna and Joyce hadn't played the telemarketer and robbed an old lady of her "donation" at the last minute in order to pay a huge cab fare, Romber would have easily won the race. Not to mention the fact that Romber actually had their names on the waiting list at that last airplane flight, and Uchenna and Joyce would've never made the flight if it hadn't been for a really nice captain.

In my humble opinion, Rob and Amber won "Amazing Race" hands down, and were robbed of their victory by panhandlers. I wonder if that poor old lady ever did find out what her "donation" went for? Joyce's giggling little voice as she backed away with the old woman's money made me sick.

And my prediction--Uchenna and Joyce will blow through their $400,000 (can't forget the tax man, can we?) in a matter of months, chasing their dream of a baby. They will either have one of their own, finally, or they will adopt. At which point, they will realize that the only thing they've had in common for months is this child; they will realize that the money is rapidly vanishing; they will realize that parenthood is no walk in the park. They will end up divorced.

As for the team who outplayed and outlasted and outsmarted every single other team on "Amazing Race?" Their wedding is due to air on May 24, 2005, on CBS. And Rob, Saint Anthony didn't let you down--you found Amber, after all, and I can't wait to see you guys as parents.
