We went to see a B-17 Flying Fortress here called the "Sentimental Journey," and I was definitely impressed. Inside, they apparently could fit a crew of 10, but I honestly can't see how. It's really tiny inside, and very cramped. Sitting on the ground, she was extremely hot inside (it was in the 90s outside), but in the air she would have been absolutely freezing. There were over 12,000 B-17s built, and only a dozen are still in flight today.
While there, I heard some stories about veterans who come to see her on her various tours, and they broke my heart. I would love to be able to hear more such tales, and I'm asking any World War II veterans--or any air-show workers--who have tales to tell to please e-mail them to me at firstname.lastname@example.org? I would love to be able to publish these stories on a blog. Again, PLEASE e-mail me if you have any stories you'd like to tell?
