Out of the woodwork
In case anyone was wondering how long it'd be before things came crawling out of the woodwork, here they come . Never mind that Ratzinger himself reopened several sex abuse cases. Never mind that any other entity on the planet would be allowed to try to deal with things in-house first, at least by the press if not by law. Never mind that hundreds of priests lost any dignity they'd ever had when accused by grown adults of abuse in those now-adults' childhoods.
I vividly remember the whole "Michelle Remembers" brouhaha of the 1970s, when every single child in America was Satanically abused. I vividly remember the whole "Daddy did it" brouhaha of the 1980s when every single child in America was raped by a family member. I vividly remember the whole "hypnosis made me remember it all" brouhaha of the 1990s when every single adult in America recalled repressed horrors while being treated by a hypnotherapist. And does anyone out there remember the alien abductions of the '40s and '50s? I'd be willing to bet that Benedict XVI remembers those times as well, and I'd be willing to bet that then-Cardinal Ratzinger was highly suspicious of the hundreds of abuse claims that were pouring in from everywhere in the 1990s. Given the fact that these claims were mainly made by adults who said the abuse had happened anywhere from 10 to 50 years in the past, I'd also be willing to say that perhaps then-Cardinal Ratzinger may have had good reason to doubt.
Yes, there are evil priests. There are also evil Methodists, evil Jehovah's Witnesses, evil Mormons, evil baggage handlers, evil stock clerks, evil bank managers. I am so sick of everybody blaming priests for everything bad that has ever happened. Seriously. The Church is not riddled with pedophiliac priests, no matter how badly gays want it to be. It just isn't. Some kids must have been abused by some priests at some point in time, yes, granted. Horrible. Evil. But you have to wonder, at some point, don't you, just why it's only the Catholic Church that ever snags front-page headlines with this stuff? If in doubt, if you think that only Catholic priests have ever abused anyone in the Christian sphere, if you think that only those nasty, perverted, unmarried Catholic priests are the perpetrators, CLICK HERE.
