Canadian P.M. in hot water with Bono
Paul David Hewson, a.k.a. Bono, has been a driving force behind the effort to give aid to developing countries. He has met with world leaders urging either aid to be given to poorer countries, or debts to be forgiven them. And now the Canadian P.M. has landed himself in hot water with the outspoken Irishman. From Yahoo:
OTTAWA (AFP) - Irish rock star Bono has criticized embattled Canadian Prime Minister Paul Martin for failing to honour a pledge on boosting aid to developing countries. The Irish singer, who has just started a North American tour with his band U2, said he was "disappointed" by the Canadian government's lack of action on development aid -- an issue on which is is an outspoken lobbyist. "I'm annoyed," Bono told CBC Radio in an interview late Saturday. "I'm bewildered, really. I'm disappointed," he said. "I can't believe that Paul Martin would want to hold up history," Bono said. "I'm going to be the biggest pain in his ass," Bono said, suggesting he will continue lobbying Martin over foreign aid. "We were looking for Canada to lead rather than be a laggard." Yahoo!
